Treadling a Lost Journey

Incorporating music and conversations as an integral part of his creative process, Taro is setting on a journey through lost memories of his childhood, trying to recall those moments with familiar sounds. He uses wheels as a way back machine which can only be activated by the involvement of the audience. The wheels are connected to the pedals of an old sewing machine which is constructing memories without a clear timeline. Inspired by Jacques Lacan's idea of self being developed only by mirroring others, Taro invites the audience to this journey, letting them take action in this re-construction process. As a first generation immigrant he invites people to observe his memories and themselves, to witness the never-ending cycle of conflict and resolution, and to participate in a conversation with the artist and the memories of others.
