Duygu Gün
Duygu Gün is a storyteller, musician, and arts professional originating from Anatolia, a.k.a Asia Minor, the Asian part of modern Turkey. Her family moved from Crete Island to Turkey with the population exchange between Greece and Turkey in the early 1900s, Duygu grew up appreciating and feeling belonging and longing for two different cultures; Turkish and Greek. With a desire to explore cultures and traditions around the world, she left her home to travel around the world. While she preserved and represented her culture in different lands, she also learned and practiced the language, music, dance, and traditions of each culture she encountered. Her works incorporate explorations and interpretations of the cultures she has been hosted by, exploring commonalities and questioning underlying meanings within traditions using music, video, light, and shadow as mediums.
Duygu performs around the Bay Area covering traditional Turkish, Sephardic, and Balkan music. She is also working on a documentary about the Balkan music scene in the Bay Area. She is an arts professional passionate about enhancing the local music scene and works at SFJAZZ managing corporate partnerships.
